September 4, 2023 - Having just opened a bottle of this about 6 seeks ago, this is much the same as then when I noted, “Nose of plum, molasses, boysenberry, classic rhubarb, licorice, Zin funk, with a bit, but not much coffee.” But what was different was the balance …this bottle felt less balanced with distinct alcoholic hotness. Also different was the noticeable sweetness on the attack, but as I noted from the last bottle, “this is not a shy wine.” I suspect the food choice may have contributed to the different perceptions between bottles. As always, this is a powerful wine. 14.8% alc. Not a lot of sediment. With homemade, Ooni fired pizzas (peperoni&onion, sausage&mushroom, mushroom&yellow pepper). 09.04.23. Recommended.

July 2, 2023 - The Paso Robles is, as always, 100% Zin. This is our first opening of the 2013 vintage. Beautiful in the glass, as always. Nose of plum, molasses, boysenberry, classic rhubarb, licorice, Zin funk, with a bit, but not much coffee. Balanced, beautiful mouth feel, but make no mistake, this is not a shy wine. It most always is a powerful wine. 14.8% alc. Not a lot of sediment. With pork barbeque from Seed to Tail while watching the NASCAR Chicago inaugural street race. 07.02.23. Recommended.

January 3, 2021 - Opened 1 of 2 remaining, and this time I didn't like it as much. It found a good deal of the sweetness that I usually find in Ridge's Paso Robles. It was ever so smooth, and without being syrup in texture, there was definitely a strong sense of sweet grape or strawberry jelly (rather than jam), no other serious flavors came through, with the possible exception of vanilla. Served with a ground beef ragu red sauce/pasta (no salads/vinegar dishes). My wife didn't finish her glass, and if I had rated this originally in the 88-90 range I would have reduced that rating by 5, as it was rather one dimensional. No change in aftertaste, and didn't develop much over the 4 or so hours open. Earlier I thought high alcohol, but I didn't find that this time (nor do I feel it this morning). Pumped the bottle for a last glass, so if there's a difference second night, I may update.

August 6, 2020 - Cedar, blackberry, leather, and cloves. A prominent note of currant on the finish. Nice, but not a home run like the 2018. I think I prefer this wine a bit younger when the fruit pops a bit more and the spice from the oak is more prominent.
