April 4, 2021 - Pinotage is a grape everyone loves to hate, but I think it has parts to love. Kanonkop makes an ambitious, bold showy wine that swings big, has to nail it, and mostly does. To me, the Pinotage tell is a thing of smoking wet tar and milk chocolate coffee sludge. That's here. Follows with black pepper, bourbon spice and a curious banana note which I think may just be oak and smoke stacked sideways. Then follow the dark fruits. Blue plums and blackberries, and an underlying mineral saltiness. There's lots here and lots to love.

September 26, 2020 - Not blind. This was initially coravin’d 2 years ago.

After 10 mins the classic floral nose (violet) come to the fore.

This was beautifully smooth and balanced a great example of Pinotage. One of the best I have had in many years.

This is in its prime. Dark red and rounded. Moderate tannins.

May 25, 2020 - A jewel of a pinotage. Slightly earthy, with rich dark red fruits (cherry, plum) topped with a bit of spice. Decanted an hour before serving which improved the flavor. Great aroma in the glass, very balanced with smooth long finish

May 21, 2020 - Decanter for 2 hours prior to drinking. Deep, dark ruby, with very faint bricking around the hue. A very brooding and muscular dark plum and dark fruit driven wine, with hints of fig and liquorice. Long and very fine drying tannins. Possible a little bit of game developing but not a lot tertiary notes yet. I don’t often drink Pinotage but would say this is an excellent warmer, riper example. Years to go yet.

December 19, 2019 - Very nice wine. Core of dark plumy fruit with toasted notes, light spice box, and some licorice on the finish. Well-balanced and smooth.
