November 13, 2023 - Deep golden color. Not a great showing.

January 8, 2023 - Fantastic showing! You could get thrown off by the rich, golden color, but alas, magic awaits. Citrus and oil, some lemongrass on the nose. Slowly it emerges, takes some coaxing. Terrific acid spine that just runs right down the middle and buffers the waves of honey and apricot jam. Fruit is rich, palate viscous. But it's never ponderous; the acid gives us balance. Still some tension- an unfolding over an hour or so- seems to bode for living longer. No harm to drink now. Yum.

December 28, 2020 - Yes, Virginia, there is good Riesling made in Baden! A recent bottle of this 2013 a few months back was spectacular, and this one was only a nose behind. Based on the last showing, I decanted this one an hour before serving and kept it lightly chilled. It poured a rich golden color, with body you could almost see. The nose was demanding right from the start, even perhaps calming down from pop to pour in a good way. There was only a hint of kaffir lime and lemongrass to start, where those had dominated my last bottle. This time it was a rich fermented honey and confit apricots, with some sprightly citrus to give it lift. The acid was in a perfect place for me - not to aggressive, just firm and lively enough to carry the medium weight fruit and give pleasing balance. I love the mouthfeel of Laible's wines - they all seem to have weightless weight and compelling texture, and end up giving a sweeter impression just due to the slight viscosity, I think. Not chewy, exactly, but closer to sauce than jus. We paired this with our standard seared pork chops with a mustard/curry rub (not spicy), with which it matched nicely. But it was a surprise love at first sight with the English peas with mint and butter. The peas this year were so great and abundant that I blanched some fresh from their shells this spring and froze them for winter nights when we're tired of cabbage, kale and sprouts. I have to say they were a delight, and brought out a slight minty taste in the wine which I quite enjoyed. We spent all in all probably an hour and a bit with our glasses, as it was so much fun to drink. Over that time, it didn't change a ton. I think there's a few years of upside here for sure, and they'll hold a long while, if you can manage to keep your hands off them. On the other hand, no sin in drinking them now. A happy wine, intellectual enough to think about if you want, but not demanding of anything other than your love.

August 26, 2020 - Haven't had one of these in a couple of years and it has really evolved beautifully! The nose was stunning - hit first with kaffir lime and lemongrass, which morphed quickly into intense grapefruit and finally settled on a nice pan-citrus melange. Great density and energy, acid is dancing a descant over solid bass notes. Love where this wine has gone. What a terrific vintage for Klingelberger and for Laible in general. If you have any of these, drink at least one now.

August 7, 2017 - This is really in a nice place right now. Light golden in color. The nose has minerals and a bit of peach. Also some slight pineapple. On the nose and palate, there is a perception of sweetness but it is dry. Deep and complex with vibrant fruit and minerals. Peaches and stones. Nice acidity. Very food friendly with a tomato and cheese pie. Nice finish. Very impressed and sorry it is my last bottle.
