October 22, 2023 - Over the peak with toffee, sherry and kumquat. While the fruit had faded, it still had hint of acidity to keep it alive.

September 27, 2016 - Not only a cool snapshot into history, but also a terrifically complex Chardonnay. Full nose is slightly oxidized with caramel, white fruit, brioche, hazelnut and spice. The palate is impressive with still-fresh and even lush white fruit. Tons of depth with caramel, earth and spice tones. Long, complex finish. Impressive.

September 27, 2016 - Dinner with the Steakhouse in the Corner (Chicago, IL): For a 32-year-old chardonnay, this has aged magnificently. There's a touch of nuttiness, but it's minimal and seems to add interest to the wine. It's a very fleshy chardonnay, to be sure, with a really rounded texture. The fruit here is quite ripe, and there's a slight sweet pear note here, as well as a subtle mushroom note behind everything else. There's acidity here, and just about enough to hold everything together.

February 22, 2015 - The Eyrie Vineyards Fiftieth Anniversary Tasting (Portland Art Museum): The nose is decadent, complex, and engaging. Scents of apricots and orange peel are present, but underneath it all is some deep, enchanting honey. When tasted, it starts out delicately. The acidity is the first thing to grow on the palate, with the texture of barely ripe apples. Apple flavors come next, blended with some rounded oak, while apricots linger in the background. A touch of dried fruit hints at the age of this wine, but if I didn't know, I'd never guess the actual age. The acidity lingers long and pure on the finish along with enjoyable apple flavors. The fruit and acidity are lovely.
