February 9, 2017 - Deep garnet in color with a slightly bricking edge. Nose of cherries and plums with a hint of tobacco. Tastes of cherries, currants, smoke box, expresso, and scorched Earth. Lovely fruit flavored with a hint of tropical fruits in the backdrop. Classic Stellenbosch scorched Earth notes with pronounced acidity and supple tannins. Tastes fresh and youthful but drinking well. Will hold up nicely for 5+ years.

October 1, 2013 - Brown Bag Wine Dinner at Two Chefs - Double Blind (TWO CHEFS, MIAMI, FL): The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like Blackberry, Black currant (cassis), and Lead Pencil. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Polished texture. The wine finishes Long.

October 1, 2013 - Showed very well at wine group dinner last night at Two Chefs. In our double-blind format, almost everyone in the group mistook it for a Bordeaux

July 24, 2012 - Drinking like the fine wine it is. On the week of Ernie's British Open win, an unlikely feat is shared by this fruit driven and smoky wine holding on bravely to it's structure and balance. It's perfect right now as a delicious summer cab. And Ernie's not doing too badly either.

September 21, 2009 - Did not decant. Very intense aromatics -- beautiful! Lots of fruit - black currant, cherry, plum, but certainly most black currant. Also aromatic of mint, pencil shavings, smoke and a light underlying earthiness. On the palate, significantly less fruit than nose and more herbaceousness. Quite smoky (that characteristic SA smokiness). At first taste - would say that palate does not live up to the nose. Finish is very smoky, but fruit does not last too long.
As the bottle went on - fruit is more evident and we both en joyed the bottle very much. We don't have another, unfortunately. I think this wine could benefit from an hour decant or so. Drink now or in next year or two- structure is still there but fruit perhaps a bit shy to keep for a long time.
