Community Tasting Notes 4

December 9, 2022 - Poured into a decanter prior to enjoying with baked chicken, macaroni and cheese and sautéed Brussels sprouts. Displays a dull ruby core with garnet edges; very slight bricking. At nine plus years this is entering into the mature phase. Aromatics and flavors lead with tertiary notes: tobacco, chocolate covered cherries, slightly cooked plum, dried raspberries, ground baking spices, powdered cocoa, and decaying cedar wood. Structure is notable, but integrated, supporting a long persistent finish, while providing a foundation to support further intermediate term cellaring. Drink now or over the next 5+ years. This will cellar as long as the fruits hold up, which are clearly showing signs of maturity right now.

December 24, 2018 - IMHO, if not the best, one of the best Merlots coming out if Napa recently. It has a high percentage of Cabernet in the blend (<25%) which should appeal to Cabernet lovers. Very pronounced, developing aromatics and flavors of dark, chocolate covered cherries; black, spicy raspberry; black currant; vanilla oak, and black, charred, rocky earth. Still exhibits a solid tannic core with corresponding high acidity. This will have no problem standing up to a grilled or smoked piece of red meat. Finishes very long. Full bodied and medium plus alcohol, I’ve enjoyed a number of this producer’s offerings over the last three years, and they are all extremely good.

December 18, 2017 - Much, much better on day #2. Tight on first day but blossoms into a velvety wine with fruit and flowers on the nose. Typical merlot fruit profile with lots of chocolate and toasty oak. Quite balanced on the finish. Completely different wine by 2nd day.

April 18, 2017 - Ok. Cork showed a lot of seepage, but think wine was still fine. Just a little one-note and not an easy drinker. Hoping the Cult I bought is better.
