October 11, 2019 - Deep ruby color with slow legs. French oak, blackberry and cassis on the nose. Black cherry, plum and espresso on the palate. Leathery finish with medium tannins. Recommend minimum 2 hour decant.

October 6, 2019 - PnP (not shaken, sorry couldn’t help myself) not decanted fully however drank over 2 hours. I enjoy 2013s, especially for those wines that were really crafted well... this wine was certainly well made but like many Insignia’s I have had it didn’t wow me. I am not against Insignia but at $200/bottle I honestly, for my palate, feel there are better wines out there for the price point.

Nose muted, palate blue, dark red fruit, some
Blackberries, grassy and some herbal notes. Due to the lack of fruit concentration and already dwindling tannins (surprising for 2013) I am not sure how this will age. Don’t get me wrong it’s not a must drink now or else. rather it may not overly improve like others on this category for this vintage. Will be curious how the Backus compares.

September 4, 2019 - At a private tasting at JP, tasted this and the 2016. This is a really uninteresting and flat wine. Tannins nearly gone, no fruit, no depth. Nothing engaging that would give any hope that it will be worth drinking in 15 years. Had been decanted and shaken by staff two hours before tasting. Deep deep crimson color, long slow legs.

December 26, 2018 - Big inky purple but nose still a touch muted. Bold blue fruits and smooth tannins. Great bottle.

December 2, 2018 - This wine was raised in 100% new French oak barrels for two years. It is something of a rare breed these days in Napa Valley since it is neither a single varietal wine nor a site-specific wine. Rather, it is a traditional blend of Bordeaux varieties from various vineyards from all parts of the valley floor. Specifically, it comprises of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc.

Vintage 2013 is much heralded. Some even said it's the "vintage of the century"! The growing season is long, hot, and dry. The first of three consecutive drought years. The berries are flavorful and concentrated. Even the seeds and stems are ripe! The result is well represented in the wine.

Deep inky purple but freshly looking and brilliantly young with no sign of aging yet. The aromatics of crushed blackberry, plum, thyme and sage. The palate is firm but approachable. Tannin is present yet structured. Medium plus body and medium acidity. Blueberry, dark cherry, and still slightly grapey. Milk chocolate, black pepper, star anise, and mixed steak herb. Purity and sumptuousness.

20 years ago, this wine would be controversial as its style is in the camp of what a lot of people called "modernist", i.e. ripe, explosive fruit forward, low acid and easily accessible on the younger side. Today, I would call this mainstream style of Napa cab. It is a great steakhouse wine that would stand up to any grill dishes. But that's about it. I would drink this within its 15th anniversary to enjoy the fruity side of it. 91/100.
