Community Tasting Notes 3

May 1, 2020 - This is no longer the fruity, hedonistic wine of its youth, but it is still excellent. It still has some blackberry & blueberry fruit, but now has more secondary and tertiary earthy/spicy notes. Some tobacco, leather, chocolate, sages. Mild, silky tannins.

February 4, 2017 - A hedonist's delight! This is big, bold & fruity up front, with a lovely nose of brambly fruit, which follows on the palate with juicy acidity plus some nice spiciness on the mid-palate to finish. The oak notes are a bit more subdued now, but are still keeping things classy. It is still quite young & needs some age (Cinder says it will peak in 2020-2025), but is very impressive now.

This (and Coiled's 2014 Sidewinder) was a highlight of a comparative tasting of 7 Syrahs/Shirazes from around the world (N. Rhone, Sonoma, Chile, Australia, Italy, Idaho's Snake River Valley AVA) in the $15-25 price range. Other producers in the tasting included 2009 Domaine des Miquettes St. Joseph, 2011 Bedrock North Coast Syrah, 2014 Montes Alpha Colchagua Valley Syrah, 2006 Lengs & Cooter The Victor.

November 25, 2015 - WOW. This is a FANTASTIC wine. Perhaps the best wine I've had from Idaho, and one of the best Syrahs I've ever had.

Great perfumey & rich nose w/ fruit, floral & oak notes. Dark rich fruit on the palate with lovely notes of French oak & some minerality on the finish. I'm normally oak-averse, but this is a really excellent use of French oak barrels. Moderate tannins. Great with steak!
