March 4, 2024 - Unless you only like the riper, more robust type of wines, this is a wine for everybody. The nose, like the palate, leans more towards red fruits than black fruits, which is surprising for a Pauillac but not for HBL. Quite attractive aromas and tastes of red cherry and redcurrant, with some more usual blackcurrant. Medium-bodied, decent acidity, fruity but not OTT, well-balanced and definitely promising. A better version of the 2001.

March 4, 2023 - Belated Celebratory visit to Hawthorn; 3/4/2023-3/5/2023 (Hawthorn): Btg off the list, coravined. This was lovely - my second favourite wine of the evening, and K’s first. Not really familiar with 2014 claret but this was decent - gentle alcohol (by modern standards…13% abv) it has some substance but neither clumsy nor plush. If I had some of these in the cellar I would be pleased.

July 9, 2022 - Popped and decanted 6-7 hours before dinner without tasting until then. Was quite nice medium-bodied Pauillac with some complexity. Elevated our simple dinner of turkey-based, July 4th leftovers. Last glass seemed deadened, perhaps I decanted too early (?), which I believed unlikely with a 2014. A notch above my workaday table wine.
