Community Tasting Notes 35

December 25, 2023 - Decanted about 30 min prior to tasting (moderate sediment). Color is still dark red, slightly purplish at edge. Nose is dominated by typical Bordeaux pencil lead. Palate has rich mouthfeel and cassis, vanilla, and well integrated tannins. Not sure this one will improve much with more time (one bottle left). Served with pan-seared beef filet.

November 5, 2022 - My thinking was 86-87 on day one with a slow ox of 5 hours. It was harsh , unbalanced and very young.

Day 2 (24 hours after bottle is open and 3/4 the bottle drunk, resolved tannin, prunes on the nose, mix of dark and red fruits in the mouth with a long finish. Some bell pepper on pallet, but not overwhelming. Definitely a new world oaky style, but seems to work on this bottle. I purchased on secondary for 35 bucks , just the other day.

Overall, I'm happy for the qpr

August 8, 2022 - Until now, this wine has been a backward, overly oaky bruiser, but this bottle was turning a corner and becoming a really nice wine. Very herbaceous on day one, with some spicy red fruit and strong but softening tannins. Very good concentration, and well integrated oak. Good balance, too. All that being said, it was still a day-two wine. On day two, everything came together, with no loss of focus or intensity after a night in the fridge under vacuum, and the wine showed some nice black fruit and tertiary development. 14.5% ABV (very good; above average; distinguished; compelling/***/16/91)

August 2, 2022 - Good fruit. Medium tannins. Long finish. Medium mouth feel. Some layers flavor make the wine pleasant to drink. Good food wine.

May 3, 2022 - Wonderfully rich, unctuous, mouth-filling claret, packed with fruit and with some secondary notes registering both on the nose and on the palate. The richness comes at the expense of a certain finesse, but it is amazing that the winemakers got so much out of merlot.
