February 17, 2024 - Brought to an anniversary dinner. It’s been almost five years since the last bottle. Almost a completely different wine. This one was a lighter version - lighter in color, almost translucent, lighter in weight, amazing texture. Similar aromas and flavors though. Hints of jasmine, orange blossoms, and ripe mangoes. This is probably my Top 3 all-time whites. Delicious.

    Day 2:
Still awesome. A bit more grapefruit on the finish as I initially expected. 14.5% ABV does not show it. Probably one of my exceptions for low ABV wines I am seeking.

March 30, 2021 - would it make sense if I described this wine as "amazingly amazing"? dry, tropical/acidic/floral notes with the depth of a sauterne but no overt sweetness. still "fresh" 9 years off the vine, yet has settled into itself. neither a young wine nor an old wine - just a deep wine. Tasted over about an hour, via coravin (the rest of the bottle for later this week) - the last sips were different and better than the first. My guess, plenty of life left, but this has to be a high point for this beautiful wine.

August 16, 2019 - Has it really been 4yrs since I last test drove this? Almost through 2 cases of the 12 reserve...the I Block just takes it to a whole other level! Very similar fruit profile in the two...peach, melon, grapefruit...unique tropical flare to it with lemon grass, coconut creme, waxy banana skin...bright and zippy citrus acidity, stony minerality, and a slight petrol nuance. But it's the MINERALITY in the I Block that really makes it the most amazing white wine made in Ca. imo. The 74yr old vines struggling to go deeper and deeper to find water and nutrients to survive in the tiny dry farmed vineyard. Salty, chalky, pulverized flintstone...little spicy, smoky...perfectly intermingled with the ripe fruits, and amazing florals...even some herb garden, and white honey butter thrown in for extra complexity. No signs of age...fresh as can be...a true pleasure to drink this history in a glass!

July 8, 2019 - Popped and poured, needed a good hour to fully open up and improved over a few hours. What a joy to drink. Great depth and in my opinion the best sauv Blanc in the USA. This is in its prime but has at least another 5 years.

    February 8, 2019 - Celebrating a friend's 40th birthday in Nashville.
I was reminded that I have had this wine last year, but for some reason I do not remember.

Pale yellow color. Faint grapefruit pith, jasmine, and fresh peaches on the nose. Very creamy, smooth texture without that acidic bite in the back of your throat with some sauvignon blancs. Very different from a Merry Edwards SB which I always enjoy. More similar to the older Dagueneaus.
