June 14, 2012 - Perfect condition. Bubbles were live and persistent despite the age. Cork came out perfectly too. Needed some time in the glass to settle down and start showing it's character. Amazing how intense the nose was with red fruits notes together with hints development such as violets, roses. Savory palate, elegant and delicate, while broad and powerful. Great medium++ finish. Probably one of the best Rose I've had. While the comparison is not fair, I'd bet if all goes well with '96 rose, it will show even better than this as it is now already more complex than the '69.

November 24, 2009 - Dinner at Elements - dark pink in color and tasted like burnt grapefruit, but in a good way. Drink-up.

September 8, 2009 - Acker BYO at Bouley - Cork broke, had to get the rest out using a waiters screw, so clearly not many bubbles left. Good amount of oxidation, but still drinkable with lots of chocolate and caramel and some honey. Similar issue with the '55.

May 2, 2009 - The Big "Four-O": 40+ Wines for 40 Years: I recently acquired this bottle for the 40th birthday party and I thought it would be interesting to see if a 40-year old wine was as old and tired as I am. This was the last Champagne of the night, preceded by about 18 others, mostly from 1996. There was no pop when I opened the cork, which was a little disheartening and when poured into the glass there were no visible bubbles. The color was between brown and copper, very brandy like. The bottle had been sitting on ice, so it needed a few minutes to warm up. And then some bubbles appeared but they were small and sleepy. There was a beautiful caramel nose and the palate was also caramel with a little cocoa/tootsy roll. There was some slight stewed/dark fruit, but mostly chocolate tones. It drank like an wonderfully aged brandy. Guillame from Dom Perignon was just amazed at how gracefully this had aged, as was I, considering it was just as old as me.
