Community Tasting Notes 10

July 30, 2022 - Held on to the last one (somehow) for 3 years. This one today was definitely a red fruited Cabernet Sauvignon behemoth, less truffle and chocolate than in 2019 but much more red licorice and black cherry jolly rancher in place. The nose is very intoxicating red fruit and brambly herbal. Took about 30 minutes for it to open, which definitely was a shorter time than the hours it took this one in 2019. Finishes with chalky stuff oak tannin and you can start to see the sediment in the neck of this which I don't think I saw a few years ago. This wine is STILL evolving. Still has a way to go before it becomes a pop and pour wine. But this wine is a huge example of a well made wine by an incredible Alexander Valley family spanning generations of solid family farming that JUST. GETS. THE. TERROIR. They know these grapes more than a winemaker who is paid an insane amount of money to make the wine popular and therefore at a price that the average wine lover cannot afford. Kudos. Robert. Young. For these reasons we have been a fan since the 2009 vintage, and it pains me to drink the last of these! Beautiful wine from beautiful people!

March 27, 2020 - Good on night one. Better on night two. Knock out on night three. 45 second finish. Graphite, black cherry, black tea and some Asian spice. This has a good 5 to 7 years of life to go. Memorable wine!

July 6, 2019 - Drinking very well with pop and pour, with about 15 minutes of air in the glass.
