October 18, 2020 - Just not my style. Kind of over the top, single note wine.

April 23, 2020 - Good but will get better. Ribeye was the choice of meal.

September 15, 2019 - Pop and pour and tasted with food (Tonkotsu ramen, with sides of chicken, shitake mushrooms, and Ajitsuke Tamago (soft-boiled egg), in case you were wondering).
    Dark purple color.
Nose of black cherries, blackberries and touch of cedar.
Rich and full bodied; acidity is sufficient but this is a broad shouldered wine with its fruit profile.
At this stage, it is lacking in elegance. Enjoyable but wish there was more nuance and depth.
I think another year or two would help this wine.

Tasted the balance of the wine, after pouring 1/2 into a 375ml bottle and refrigerating. Let it warm up a bit to temp of around 65F. Still shows that rich fruit profile, hint of oak, and a slight presence of alcohol.
    Label states: 14.5% abv.

June 30, 2019 - My first of these, shared with two others tonight. We all thought the acidity stood out awkwardly, which I can’t say I’ve ever experienced with any other Mike Smith wine. I’m not sure what to make of that. Maybe we just caught it in an odd phase? I’ll hold my other bottles for at least another 1-2 years and hope for better integration over that time.

    January 20, 2019 - 2016 Becklyn Lineup & Vertical (Calistoga): 2016 Becklyn lineup and vertical tasting of Becklyn NV 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016.

Dark berry fruit core with an uber-grippy frame. Some pyrazine, rainbow/green peppercorn, and tight, hyper focused wild black raspberry, stems, stone, and dusty leather. The mid-palate rides a bit high, but the flavors are still compelling. Finishes youthfully linear flavor-wise, but still nicely framed-out with notable scaffolding.

Another example of a 2013 that needs time. Huge potential here, with stuffing that might ultimately eclipse even the awesomely complex 2015 Becklyn NV. 93-94++ points. Revisit in 2022+
