February 26, 2018 - Dinner at Formento's (Chicago, IL): Big, sizzling youthful nose of mineral and crisp white fruit. In the mouth, this is round, crackling and so full of life. Lively as hell with crisp and driving acidity married to richness and concentration. Creamy finish. Wow.

February 26, 2018 - Dinner at Formento's with Michael (Chicago, IL): From what I remember about this wine, it needed a lot of air, and I missed the chance to revisit it later in the evening. In any case, this was pretty much as I remember it being -- immensely chalky and quite monolithic in its acidity and minerality, but somehow this wasn't too heavy. To my palate, this could have used a little more fruit and roundness, but there was certainly enough extract elsewhere to make up for it.

September 5, 2017 - Huge nose of apple skins and yeast. Full-scaled and mouth-filling. Crunchy acids. This was a bit clunky at first, but was really singing after a few hours towards the end of the night.

September 5, 2017 - Dinner at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): This needs a lot of air to flesh out -- and it got significantly bigger and better with that. At first, this was a little anemic, showing mostly a lot of the tart white fruit that is a hallmark of the vintage (heck, I would probably have had trouble calling this a BdN at all if served blind). The midpalate has a bit more fullness that might lead one down the BdN route. There's ample tart white fruit here, as well as a racy acidity that makes this a great tonic.

June 22, 2016 - Disappointing, and a few steps below what I've come to expect from Ledru. I hope this was an off bottle, as it didn't have any of the depth or power that I've enjoyed when drinking Goulté previously. Instead it comes across somewhat one dimensional, with ripe citrus and pear fruit accented by yeast and some doughy notes that emerge with more air, but never showing the complexity I expect from Ledru. Leftovers the next day show more depth and interest, but I'll hope that my other bottles are better.
