July 18, 2021 - Rutherford, Napa, 2003 Staglin Family Cabernet Sauvignon Salus (gift from friend's estate). Mid-garnet, brick edges; viscous (15.1 alc.); red fruit, ripe grape, Napa nose (herbaceous, berries, mint); mid acids; medium-plus tannins; hot alcohol; full bodied; pronounced Cabernet fruit; some wood; long semi-tight very hot finish, which detracts from the score. 16 UC Davis scale, 90 other scales.

February 7, 2021 - Bought from a prominent re-seller so I'm assuming it did not influence the aging. I'd say this was unbalanced, lost it's acidity and verve. It was thick, almost port-like plum. I've had many older Calicabs and this was not much different given the pedigree of this make. It was a good buy and we drank it all; just obvious that it's best days are long behind. It emphasized the importance of drinking most Cali up before they lose their hair!

December 23, 2020 - Whoa killer! I thought this would have been on its way down, especially for this vintage but instead this is drinking extremely well, to the point the first sip with a splash decant was WOW. Lots of rich, velvety mouthfeel, blackberries, leather, vanilla supple tannins and in the perfect drinking window. Drink now and fall in love- amazing.

December 31, 2018 - Absolutely great wine for the price. Still showing youthful and rich fruit (cassis, black berries and cherry) with a layer of eucalyptus and herb, with a touch of vanilla. Long finish. Not dried out at all. Drank well from a decanter over 4+ hours. Great now with room to eveovle. Smoothing but more than enough tannin for lamb chops.
