July 19, 2023 - Ruby core that is not perfectly clear, mature looking rim. Winning aromatics-floral tones, plum fruit, and a bit of green herbs. Light to medium weight with a round base of clay as an underpinning and slight sappiness. Great complexity in the mouth too with ripe red fruit, a squirt of orange peel, excellent salinity, and a chocolate richness that is uncommon in Gamay. Average acidity but it finishes with a bit of typical brambliness. The last bottle of this was marred by brett, but this was glorious and in full bloom, really a pretty stunning bottle of mature Beaujolais.

December 28, 2022 - Morgon and Fleurie with Charcuterie and Cheese (San Francisco): Light red. Dark cherry fruit and funk due to brett. Ripest, deepest wine of the 3 so far with good red fruit and soil. Nice mouth feel, some remaining tannin. This wine has enough to it so it is not slain by the brett, but no question that it detracts from the overall harmony. Too bad.

January 31, 2022 - Dark cherries, violets, blood orange, and a peppery note on the nose. Nice acidity and medium tannins on the palate along with flavors of pomegranate , more cherries, and a lingering citrus zest note. Good finish. This wine always feels much darker than Foillard’s other cuvées.

December 10, 2021 - On opening, the nose shows a bit of earthy brett, along with light sweet fruit notes. 24 hours later the apparent brett has receded, leaving just the light crushed fruit. Palate has become more high toned since tasting this on release, less darker flavored, more strawberry and bright raspberry notes, good acidity with maybe some background hints of acetic acid. Quite tasty, still quite youthful, dominated a little by the slightly overwhelming acidity.

May 1, 2020 - Decanted. Bright and beautiful from first pour. Now 3h after decant. Beautiful aromas of black cherries, bright blackberries, clove, cinnamon, bark, hint of earth. Palate w red cherries, blackberries, bark, hint of sous bois, some earth, herbs, and minerals. Medium bodied w really nice acids and mild tannins. Complex yet joyful. Halfway between pinot and gamay. Lovely finish of fruit, stones, and baking spices. Just great.
