Community Tasting Notes 12

January 14, 2012 - My second to last bottle, this will be total history when gone. Don't think you will find another bottle of this around. The wine had nice cherry and black olive notes, a little mustly bottle age that made this wine the hit of the night. I wish all wines lasted this long and tasted this great. This makes drinking young wines incomprehensible.

November 6, 2011 - 11/11 Some fruit with a dry austere frim finish. 87 pts.

September 17, 2011 - The tannins were almost completely gone, resulting in a soft, lush wine with incredible bottle age. Wine did not spoil although there were a few corks that had allowed wine all the way through (no sign of leaks though.) Would definitely drink it now if you haven't already, as the bottles were somewhat inconsistent.

April 4, 2011 - At the very end of its life. Much better in first 90 minutes but overall delicious. Grassy and green. Sour cherries. Drink now.

February 7, 2011 - Medium bodied with an initial nose like an old book, and green edge to the anise and smooth
tobacco notes. Mature dried herbs, cherry and soft leather abound in this Alexander Valley
reserve red. This wine does transform after roughly 4 hours, with some improvement. Spicy
black licorice appears with a hint of coffee and charcoal. Drying out with resolved, but chewy
tannins. Consumed over a 4 day period, with the last day the wine being reduced to a flat,
tasteless blah. The 1994 vintage was one of the greatest ever in California, but now they
seem worn out and tired. Drink now.
