  April 4, 2024 - Deep ruby with scents of plum coulis, spiced strawberries, sandalwood aftershave. Flavors of red cherry, soy, and gingerbread. Nicely balanced, delicious and in a great drinking window.

  January 28, 2024 - Opened for 2 hours and drank over another 3. Classic but dark Barolo fruit. Black cherry, tar, and floral notes. Not overly tannic but still youthful. Drinking well now but I would like to see how it develops.

  November 19, 2023 - Notes of Black cherries, Pomegranate and Tar with some of that Monforte muscle. It was Deep and dark yet beautifully Elegant and had really nice weight. There was a touch of carmelized fruit. This needed the air I gave it but really shined and became absolutely radiant and delicious.
  I wasn’t totally sure what to expect with the vintage, but this showed that it is both fruit forward and there is stuffing for aging here. An amazing wine with a lot to look forward to.

  October 24, 2023 - The ‘12 Casa Mate is a promising young Barolo. It’s one of the most reticent and powerful wines I have tasted from 2012. While most of the wines from this vintage seem to be nearing or in their prime, the Casa Mate is likely a few years away from its early drinking window.
  
  On the nose, I found dark, classic Ginestra aromatics, with dark red to black fruit, tar, pine, sweet spices, and dark floral tones. On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated, especially by the standards of the year. I found black cherry fruit, tar, dark florals, and a touch of a balsamic and sweet spice note that I imagine will become more prominent with time. Acidity is medium to high, while the wine remains quite tannic and in need of a few more years in the cellar for the tannins to integrate.
  
  Day 2 Update: On day 2, the aromatics of the Casa Mate have opened up a bit further, with the same core of dark fruit, dark floral tones, and a citrus peel note emerging. On the palate, the wine is a bit softer than yesterday, but still quite powerful and tannic by 2012 standards.

  September 12, 2023 - Browning robe and rim. One hour decant and this totally blossomed. In a beautiful spot. 14pct ABV. Light to medium body. Very harmonious structure and balance across fruit, acidity and tannin. Nicely matched moderate dusty tannic bite into the long finish.
