Community Tasting Notes 9

November 20, 2021 - Fresh, menthol nose, Bold, weighty red with cherry, spice, mocha. Strong tannins, lingering finish. Needs a couple of hours in air, and softens on second day, drink now

December 31, 2020 - Once again this wine is rich and savory. It is modern and packed with berry sweetness. Medium amount of tannin continue like in my prior notes.

I let sit for 2 hours tonight (NYE).
Iron and berry aromatics continue which,in mouth, turns viscous with loads of acidty and a fair amount of tannin as well. The initial flavors are stewed fatty beef, cranberry, and ripe mulberry. The mid palette fails to deliver residual fruit. That drop off of fruit is replaced by sour and overripened fruits, and that is where this wine falls short. The mid palette and finish remind me of a a declining and failing wine which is unbalanced. Given its start the wine deserves better than my score but I must say it gets worse soon after its initial tasting.

Now it could be in that weird period of a wine. I have found wines between 5 years and 10 years have an evolving period which require that they be left alone. Clearly acidity is present, and clearly tannins are here. I think (hope) the fruits are transitioning.

January 28, 2019 - More earthly and old world than expected given the previous write-ups, which noted that it was "new world" and fruit forward. Its definitely extracted and has power, but its a dry wine and carries off its 14.5% ABV without seeming at all hot or overpowering. Lovely wine that paired well with steak.

May 12, 2018 - Modern, savory and packed with berry sweetness. Medium amount of tannin holds back the true expression of this wine ever so slightly. PNP, and I am thinking that the wine may have needed 2-3 hours of decanting and likely another 5+ years of age just to begin to reach maturity.
