January 14, 2024 - Had a sulphury nose that blew off after the first night. Lots of bricking in the color but you wouldn't know it from the palate. This wine remains high-toned, with acid and tannins in spades. I was dubious of the drinking window noted here, but it's for real -- I see no reason why this can't go another five years. Still has a lot of nice cherry and spice notes as well. Not a stunner, but very good and the energy/longevity are impressive.

May 4, 2020 - I let this sit in the cellar a while to see how it would mature, and...hmm. Mid-palate is good, mouthfeel is very nice, lovely acid-tannin balance, but as others have noted, the nose is funky. I could forgive that (having a bunch of Cayuse in the cellar, sometimes funk is good), given the really nice series of flavors -- good fruit, well-balanced acidity, alcohol and tannins are integrated, but there was a distinct aftertaste on the late finish of chlorine, which is a deal-breaker. Still, I did not decant, and it was a little cool yet, pulled up from the cellar only 30 min ago, so I was not tasting it at its best. After some time to warm and breathe, it has opened up and the chlorine went away -- still loses a few points for that serious flaw, but I bumped the rating back up because if I had decanted and waited, this would have been a mid-80s wine. Even the funky nose became...not hugely pleasant, but not offensive, and interesting. If I had more, I'd see what happens over hours, and if I decide to put some aside, I'll amend the note.

January 21, 2016 - Nose is still very pungent. This will lessen as it ages. Still, getting over the "smell" is hard to do. That said, the smooth taste, front and back end, make up for it. Saving last bottle to see how it develops.

January 8, 2016 - Nose is very pungent. Get over nose and each glass is delicious. Easy drinking red.
