November 25, 2021 - The '14 Cerretta is young and I found it closed off, but it continues to show great promise. The combination of concentration, inner sweetness, acidity, and finesse of the wine on the palate is remarkable.

On the nose, I found cool tones of sweet dark red raspberry fruit, savory, smoky herbs and spices, mint, and fresh roses. On the palate, the wine was incredibly refined and medium in body with high acidity and a beautiful sweetness to the fruit. I found dark red raspberry and cherry fruit, red floral tones, savory spices, licorice, and a hint of blood orange.

This should be a very long ager and when it fully opens up I think it's going to be fantastic.

November 13, 2021 - Drank at La Trattoria della Posta. Amazing Burgundian bouquet of roses and violets. The nose keeps evolving with notes of goat’s cheese, autumn leaves. On the palate the tannins are present but relatively soft. Delicious red fruit, bacon fat and a long slightly warm finish, balanced by the acidity and fine tannins. Terrific.

September 12, 2020 - The '14 Cerretta hits you on the nose like a blast of cool air, with expressive aromatics of mint, red cherry fruit, fresh roses, sage, lavender, and licorice. There's plenty of sweet red fruit, but the nose stands out for its herbal tones, depth, and freshness. On the palate, the wine is less expressive at this stage, with a mass of sweet red fruit, joined by violet and lavender tones and sweet spices towards the finish - but at this stage, it's all about the concentration of fruit. Texturally, the wine is silky and smooth, with minimal perception of tannin from beginning to end - although it also seems clear there's plenty of tannic heft to the wine, it's just buried under the concentration. In this sense, it's silky and smooth in a very different way than something ethereal like the Burlotto Monvigliero.

It's a wonderful wine. At La Festa in 2019 I thought this was the standout of the 2014s. This bottle lived up to my memory of that tasting.

February 2, 2019 - 2014 Barolo at Festa dal Barolo (Del Posto, NYC): 2014 vintage tasting at 2019 Festa dal Barolo

A cooler profiled fruti, nettles, licorice, tar, balsam, and violets on the nose. A structured, beautifully proportioned full scaled wine of terrific balance and presence. A harmonious wine that combines power, grace and nuance. The most impressive 2014 of the day. Terrific.

February 2, 2019 - La Festa Barolo (NYC): Nose: Big nose here, a more refined (and better) version of the 2014 Parusso Barolo. Fat, dark cherries and rosewood, but there is more rose than wood in that rosewood. A little vanilla spice.
Palate: A bit of cherry choke going on.
Lighter in the mouth than these dense palate descriptors. Fine structure with a little lift. This struck me as a fat wine with a bit of finesse, that needs a lot of time for the wood to break down. 91 today, 93 with time. I may be giving Conterno the benefit of the doubt here... but regardless not in love with the QPR here.
