March 29, 2022 - Super dark and opaque wine. Red and black plum and cherry fruit. Has some nuances of cured meat, brown toast, savory herbs and vanilla on the finish. It is a bulkier wine and while the alcohol is integrated, I"m guessing it is pretty high in alcohol because I feel it. Not all ripassas are baby amazons, but this one is.

February 6, 2021 - Dark red. Almost no nose. Tart cherry mouth. Hint of cigarettes. Medium-strong tannins. Medium finish. Can do better for $30 per bottle.

September 9, 2020 - Feels like higher alcohol than it is. Port- like nose; fig, prune and raisin on the palate. Pretty much what I would expect out of a ripasso. Finish is short. Uncomplicated but good with , say, tomato based sauces for which it would be sacrilege to open up something profound. Everything in its right place.
Score: 85. Relative to expectations: 0

January 31, 2018 - Judging by the low scores, this wine, like many ripasso wines, is being consumed by people who are expecting a "normal" wine and don't mean to open a ripasso. That is a shame, because even if ripasso is not for everyone - and I am not a big fan - it is a legitimate style appreciated by many. In other words, it is unfair to compare this against anything other than another ripasso. It reminds me of seeing people - including on one occasion professional winemakers - literally throw out whole bottles of fine old vin jaune from the Jura after one taste because they were expecting something like Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc and assumed that this bottle was off.

Anyway, this is a dark-colored wine redolent of sweet dark and red fruits, with hints of bitter chocolate, winter spices, tobacco, smoke; sweet and fairly simple flavors, with a firm acid backbone that makes it workable for dinner.
