February 19, 2024 - Beautiful. And no need to rush as this is holding up very well.

November 14, 2021 - Serious winemaking with Bordeaux variatals in a old world style. Mount Eden second wine from Santa Cruz mountains that often outscores the estate bottling. Big black current fruit gives away that this is a California cab, perfect balance with firm refined tanins. Layered, musty and minti on the palette. Made to last and this 2012 is still early in the drining window, will hold up for many years to come.

May 21, 2020 - Medium bodied, blending of rustic and modern styles. Current berries, dark red fruit, tobacco, dry soil, conifer forest vegetation - recognizably from Santa Cruz Mountains. Healthy (FR and US?) oaking with some vanilla poking through, to my palate this knocks the experience down a peg but perhaps is the expected style of a $30-40 CA cab.
75% cab, 18% merlot -- this is a second bottle from Mount Eden, and perhaps aimed at being more consumer friendly while retaining austerity. Drink now or by 2028. Btl #24540 of 31488 -

October 15, 2017 - Maybe I don't understand the "rules" of wine labeling, but I'm not sure how a bottle labeled as a varietal can actually be a blend under the label, but that's what we have here in any case.
I received this bottle as a gift, and finally opened it today. The nose is quite nice; fruity and earthy elements, nicely combined. The palate's not bad either, but this wine doesn't excite me as much as it seems it does others here. The first hit is quite sweet; that mellows very rapidly to dried fruit notes, then finishes with an overly strong set of barrel notes and flavors that throw-off the balance and give it a bitter quality. While it's not quite like chewing on oak sawdust, it's not that far from it either.
Others here have described this as "old world" — I disagree. In my view, this wine is very much typical of California / American style wine. Granted, it's one of the better examples of the style I've had, while at the same time, it reminds me why I don't hold that style in very high esteem.1 person found this helpful Comments (3) -

August 20, 2017 - Color, ruby red. Nose, ripe dark fruit, herbs, menthol. Palate initially tart cherry but transitioned to dark ripe fruit, herbs, mint after a couple hours air. Old world style and well balanced fruit and earth notes. This was going strong after 2 hours and I would aim to drink these in the next 5 years.
