July 4, 2020 - Quite a full colour, medium red hue; a fine, elegant claret with rather soft, creamy, blackcurrant fruit and a slightly earthy minerality. Not quite the structure of the best vintages, but a very enjoyable wine, ideal for current drinking (or will keep).

June 12, 2020 - 1st of 36, decanted 2 hours, perfect cork and level - dark, quite dense, mat ruby, hint of brown on rim; monolithic jammy fruit, slightly hot, redcurrant, bramble, plum, vanilla, mineral core; full, quite long, persistent, concentrated, almost unctuous, jammy fruit an irritant, lacks some acidity, so feels a bit unbalanced, quite attractive though if clumsy at present. A tentative VGI (17)…...a most atypical bottle of Ducru; where's the grace and finesse I usually find?

June 10, 2020 - Decanted for 30 minutes before tasting...wine has a big bouquet of pencil shavings, cedar and dark fruit, this is a full bodied wine with excellent fruit, and tannins that are definitely still evident but starting to mellow a bit. Finish is very long...over 30 seconds, and most notably, with just 13% alcohol, it is not over-extracted or showing too much alcohol/heat, which is unusual for this year.

June 6, 2020 - This is drinking well now but it does seem to be evolving rapidly so not sure about its life span. Classic lead pencil, cedar and florals on the nose. The palate is relatively open knit with well integrated tannins. Flavors of cassis cedar and tobacco come through. This is delicious drinking now.

April 26, 2020 - This is a stunning wine, and outperforms other years from the estate, and even outshines the 1982 when it was in its prime. St. Estephe were the movie stars of the vintage, but this closely follows with the Leoville Barton. Other enthusiasts seem to be thin on the ground, but each to their own. Perhaps there is an inherent prejudice to the year as a whole. It needs 4 to 5 hours of aeration to be appreciated at its best. The nose is typical for the year and is packed full of blackcurrant, plum, blueberry and cedar. The tannin is sweet but robust, and it multi leveled on the palate. The finish is the highlight of the wine with exquisite balance and is 60+ seconds. This is starting to be at the top of its game, but still has development ahead of it and a structure for it to stay there for at least the next decade.
