May 10, 2023 - Purple colour, starting to get brown around rim
Pronounced nose of blackberry, cassis, plum, oak spice
    Flavours of blackberry, plum
    Good intensity

December 6, 2020 - Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.

≈85 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then capped. A bit of sediment noted; Private Preserve after Day 1.

N: Leather slightly atop a melding of berries & pyrazines with notes of spice

P: Med body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by a bit of astringent pucker which seamlessly, fairly quickly works itself into a LONG, balanced finish with a pleasant, mildly spicy aspect to the benign, virtually nonexistent tannins, this wine firming PRIMARILY with its acidity. As with the bottle of 8/14/20, went quite well with the night's Estofado (AR&IT)/Spinach Noodles, the entrée init bringing out the wine's swtness, ff'd by its palate-cleansing acidity. 13.5% ABV; My EXC (92,93/100 using that metric), arguably at least the lower part of EXC+ for the QPR of the $39.95 pd for it in 7/'17. Moreover, this very attractive wine should EASILY drink through its 10th, very likely longer.

// Day 2: Fragrantly ≈ Day 1, the berries (blks, poss blk cherries) slightly > prominent; P, which has held well, showing > firmness init, but QUITE mellowing out as it enters its LONG, BALANCED finish with nothing out of place. As basically anticipated, a POOR match for Grilled CHX Breasts in TJ's Masala Simmer Sauce, though I attribute that to the pairing, NOT the wine! [As of mid Dec '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $85].

    Note: Also tasted on 7/8/17 & 8/14/20.

≈1 hr decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then closed. A bit of sediment noted; Private Preserve after Day 1; Also, I overchilled it on Day 1 in my attempt to counter a warm, ambient temp. :(

N: Closed; Seems ripe with hints of pyrazines; Intensity lurking?

P: LM body; Very NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays within hailing distance of the init frt as it seamlessly transitions into a LONG, BALANCED finish to the innocuously firming, VERY fine tannins. Went well with the night's Estofado (AR&IT)/Spinach Noodles which also included Pesto.
// Day 2: N: Earthiness with notes of pyrazines atop ripe berries (the pyrazines coming forward with swirling), + hints of spice; P still showing LM body & the very NICE frt, being met by an astringent PUCKER as it seamlessly evolves into a very LONG, BALANCED finish with a tangy/swtness to the few, innocuously firming, very, VERY fine tannins. While this went acceptably with Grilled Hamburger/Jack-Blue Ch, it was slightly better by itself, though the relatives quite enjoyed it with their Grilled Sirloin Steak. An elegant, high acid style that drinks above the $39.95 I pd for it in 7/'17, + I sense it might really shine with Marinara Sauced Items. For now & should continue to drink nicely through '23, poss longer. My EXC; [As of late Aug '20, wine-searcher shows 2 sources @ $85 & a very skewed $156].

    Note: 1st tasted on 7/8/17.

December 7, 2019 - Splash decanted. Blackcurrant, sweet spice, slight cedar, pyrazine, tobacco leaf. Juicy, thick Ribena on the palate with a touch of liquorice...Tannins are grainy, textured and tooled and exist in harmony with the fruit. There is a touch of alcohol lending a peppery spice to the back palate. Simple, young, pure, lovely.

February 16, 2018 - A piece of South Australia’s wine growing heritage in a glass right here. The Hickenbotham family has been a driving force in South Australia’s viticultural community for decades now, and the fruit that comes from their vineyards has been used to make some of the most iconic red wines to-date. Nestled in the McLaren Vale, their family estate vineyard is where this pinnacle of a Clarendon Cabernet Sauvignon, “Trueman”, hails from. Elegant, dainty, fruit-forward, and delicate...this wine is fantastic. Mint, espresso, leather, graphite, and plum. This is a wine that drinks wonderfully now, but will also bloom in the cellar marvelously.
