Community Tasting Notes 11

April 6, 2024 - Definitely old, lots of black pepper and leather a touch of tannins but real soft. Not sure what a 21 year old tannat should taste like? Fun to finally drink.

September 2, 2016 - Dark red color. Aromas very promising: clean, plum, wintergreen, pipe tobacco. On arrival, gobs of soft tannin, medium acidity. Mouth-filling texture, medium intensity fruit; not real complex but this drinks so well it would work with many dinners at our house. Versatile. Better than I'd figured for an unheralded grape at age thirteen. Bottle #1 of one.

August 28, 2010 - Interesting if subtle things going on here, and my cheap glasses don't do it justice. Subtle violets and iron filings on the nose. the palate has spine but not tannins behind it. on day one I cannot define the palate. Day two has set the tannins free. In comparison with their '03 Esprit de Beaucastel, this is more a wine deserving of contemplation.

June 30, 2010 - Color (5/5) is a deep purple that clings a bit to the glass. A drinking pour is near black. A good typical Tannat nose of tobacco, plum, and very dark berries. Very full (12/15). the palate echoes the nose (16/20). Firm tannins with a dark, tarry chocolate on the finish. Clearly Tannat, but showing a fruitier side. Very Cali; rich and glycerin-y, but with decided Old World styling. All in all, a beautifully made wine (8/10) that's an excellent bridge between Old World and New. Drinking awesomely now, but can see several more years in the bottle.

October 25, 2009 - An enjoyable fruit bomb. The nose and palate are very fruit forward. The wine is smooth, but there is still significant level of tannin at the back end of the long finish. As the label describes there are ample plum and raspberry notes. This is not a wine for getting lost in savoring its complexity, but it is a good quaff.
