April 7, 2024 - Pnp. Translucent red/purple with slight fading at the edges. Cherry, red and dark berries and iron. Medium bodied. Simple, with an underlying gravel note. Some grip and a medium length finish. Has life still.

September 9, 2019 - Opened by Jim at dinner in a lineup of 3 Wyncroft Pinots. 3rd time I have had this. This was like an Amarone Pinot Noir. Inky purple color. Rich and deep with solid tannins. Notes of cassis and toasted oak. 88 points.

July 5, 2018 - Opened at the winery. This was much smoother than when I last had it in 2015. The higher alcohol was not as noticeable this time around either. A few more years of aging should see this wine rounding out even more. 89 points.

August 31, 2015 - 2015 Wyncroft Winery Visit (Michigan) (7 potentially 90+ wines with 1 classic 95 pointer); 8/29/2015-9/1/2015 (Wyncroft Winery, South Haven, Michigan): Barrel sample at the winery. The grapes for this wine came from the Southwest Michigan Research Center vineyard which is run by Michigan State University. This is the first and last vintage that Jim Lester will make of this wine since MSU ripped out these vines after the grapes were picked. This wine is named after the man who started the Enology and Viticulture program at MSU, promoted Michigan viticulture and played an important role in the SWMRC site. The vineyard was in Berrien County near Benton Harbor. This wine was more tannic, ripe and had more alcohol than most of Jim's Pinot Noir. The reason being that the SWMRC called Jim in mid October to offer him the grapes so they were picked late in the year. A concentrated wine with 14+% alcohol. 25 cases produced. Crimson color. Long thick legs. Creamy texture with firm tannins and a little heat at first. Ripe berries with some spiceiness on the finish. Solid acidity. 88 points.
