March 8, 2024 - One hour decant. Deep ruby red color. Very aromatic nose of blackberry and black cherry, dried herbs with floral and cedar notes. The full bodied palate is lush with ripe dark fruit, earthy minerals and herbs and mocha. Tannins are polished and resolved. A touch of acid and a long finish puts this one in a great place now.

    February 2, 2024 - Open 4 hours, decanted one, served low 60’s F

New world, retaining a lot of youthful character

Steak and mushroom risotto a good pairing with the earthiness balancing out well

November 21, 2023 - PnP, and enjoyed with burnt beef brisket ends, with jalapeño beans and dirty, cheese rice. Drinking well at ten years, nearing the end of the development phase. Displays a wide range of black and red fruits with tannin and acidity to provide structural balance. There’s a bit of lingering, unintegrated oak, but I think it should resolve in the next couple of years. Shows secondary and still evolving tertiary notes. There’s plenty here to stand up to the hefty food and support a long finish. Drink through 2027+.

March 30, 2023 - Mixed reviews over whether the Avennia is too old or too young. Truth be told, you can drink now or wait many, many more years. Bold, integrated tannins, complex, balanced and loaded with fruit equals a wonderfully delicious experience. Nice.

January 28, 2023 - 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc. Decanted through a Vinturi for perhaps 20 minutes and the nose screamed Cabernet. Tight for another 15-20 minutes before it filled out. Plum and currant, medium long finish. Definitely can improve for a few years and coast for another 5-10. Served with a spiced beef short rib and the this worked well, clinging onto the spice. Lovely wine,
