January 13, 2019 - This merlot is drinking very well right now. Identifiable as a Napa merlot it smooth, well-integrated, and pairs great with cheeseburgers! We moved away from Venge wine club a couple of years ago but are talking about joining again!

March 5, 2016 - Venge (Napa): Same as my previous tasting notes a few months ago. A cedar note was especially prominent this time around. Air helped open it up in terms of the fruit, but also elevated the wood component (not in a good way necessarily). Possibly best to hold for another year for better integration.

February 1, 2016 - Excellent Merlot by a great wine maker. We had it before going to dinner in Baytown wharf, Sandestin. Fruit comes through and smooth silky texture. Great way to wind down after a long drive.

December 18, 2015 - Venge Tasting; 12/18/2015-12/19/2015 (Napa): A pleasantly surprising example of a Napa Merlot. Notes of plump blackberry, raspberry, plum, chocolate, and baking spices. Beautifully crafted with more complexity than I often find in this varietal.
The tannins are definitely present, and clamp down on the fruit notes almost immediately. This Merlot presents itself almost like a young Cabernet in that it needs some time to settle down a bit.
91+ for now, with some upside that might garner even a few more points given its apparent ability to blossom into something even more layered and flavorful with some time to better integrate in the bottle. Let it rest for another year, or decant for an hour or two before serving now.
This Merlot was the #2 favorite in a lineup of five Venge reds, crushed only by the amazing 2013 Venge Bone Ash Cabernet. -

October 3, 2015 - Tasted at Venge Vineyards in Calistoga with India.
Appearance: Garnet and brick.
Nose: Blueberry, cinnamon and spices. Lots of earthy tones at the end.
Palate/Finish: Solid tannins that hits the front top palate. Grips the sides of the mouth, medium finish.
Opinion: Was opened the previous night, might of had too much air.
