February 8, 2020 - Dinner with Framily (Claudia, Chicago): Quickly double decanted off its sediment perhaps 3-4 hours before it was served with dinner. Notes of macerated black cherries, earth, roasted game and truffle. Black pinot fruit on the palate. Balanced; lingering finish. Excellent.

February 8, 2020 - One of the two red Burgundies opened by Allred at Claudia, and I much preferred this to the 1998 Domaine Trapet (Jean et Jean-Louis) Chapelle-Chambertin opened alongside. Bright cherry notes with sous bois.

February 24, 2019 - Dark fruits and sous bois, integrated oak, long finish, just lovely

October 10, 2016 - Ruby with slight fading. On the nose, a tolerable level of funk plus soil and smoke. Medium weight. Dominated by earth, but some subtle, cool strawberry begins to emerge with time. Some remaining tannin, completely integrated acidity-not a brutally structured Clos Vougeot at this point. In fact, almost completely mature. Excellent bottle, although maybe more at the level of a very fine Premier Cru-if you said Nuits, I would have nodded in agreement.

January 24, 2016 - An Evening of "Clos" in White and Red (Zuni Café, San Francisco): Moderate ruby without any hint of maturity. Cherry, woodsmoke, and menthol on the nose. Good density and weight but no heaviness. Very lively dark red fruit, a bit of sous bois, no discernible oak, well integrated tannins. I was delighted with the quality here-neither as wood laden as Gros Frère wines can be nor as punishingly austere as young, mind's eye Clos Vougeot.

(Gros Frère et Sœur Clos Vougeot Musigni) Berry nose with high lime notes; tasty, tart red fruit with good structure; medium-plus finish
