May 3, 2020 - Color: medium-dark purple with much more translucency around the rim. No bricking
Nose: upon opening lifted and herbal. Floral. Lush red/purple fruit, mint, blackberry, boysenberry, rosemary. Beautiful nose, but maybe a touch hot to start, mellowing our over the course of two hours.
Palate: the texture is amazing - like liquid velvet. Stewed plum, mint, garden herbs, cedar and cacao. Rich red fruit, medium minus acid, just enough to keep the finish. Full bodied with elegant, chewy, soft tannin that is fully integrated, but still keeping structure and lending itself to a drier finish than expected. 14.5% abv.
Swanson used to be a family owned boutique winery in Rutherford, but has since been purchased by Constellation. This bottle is from back before the ownership change and is my last from that time. I’m glad I saved it for tonight, I don’t think it’s going to improve much from here. -
