Community Tasting Notes 8

July 7, 2023 - The bottle was not in good shape. It have a pristine label and ullage, but the cork drop even before I use the wine opener. Medium+ nose intensity with notes of barnyard, forest, tea, charr wood, smoke. Medium acidity and medium tannin. If not discovered earlier, probably it will be undrinkable.

May 15, 2019 - Chris's 1978 Bordeaux Dinner (La Trompette): Required a second bottle after the first was abandoned for tasting of Marmite and not wine. This bottle had an intoxicating nose and was still fresh and retained some chewy tannins. Didn't make a huge impression among exalted company tonight though.

June 4, 2018 - Medium bodied, soft, earthy short and loaded with cherries and tobacco. Easy to drink, but not overly complex. Fully mature and then some, this requires drinking.

July 14, 2014 - Birthday Celebration 2014 (Extra Space): Popped and poured. Davyd had the first sip. By the time everyone else got to it was probably about 15-30 mins later already.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of herbaceous green bell peppers, earth, and some black fruit. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium- acidity, medium- alcohol, melting medium- tannins, medium+ body. Medium flavor intensity, with flavours of herbaceous green bell peppers, earth, and black cherries. Intermittent revelations of dark plums and blackcurrant. Medium finish.
This wine was like an old man on his deathbed fading in and out of consciousness. My other gripe is too much of the vegetal herbaceousness.
Good quality. Commendable effort for surviving 36 years. Drink up now. Don't keep this any longer.

July 14, 2014 - Derek's 31st Birthday Celebration (Extra Space): Elegant red fruits, almost pinot like, raspberries and semi-ripe cherries on the palate, some tertiary flavours, lovely melting tannins, which evolved (faded?) after 15 minutes into a distinct nose of green herbs (underripe?), capsicums, and barnyard on the palate. Quite vegetal. Best to drink this very chilled. The moment it warmed up slightly, it tasted a tad too herbaceous. This wine had character though. A bit too green for my liking, but the initial few sips when I first popped the bottle was fabulous!
