April 22, 2024 - Opened at Maison Lameloise. Decanted and enjoyed over dinner.

Infanticide, but we couldn't resist it. Still tightly wound and has many secrets left to show, but even at this age and with enough air you could tell that this is truly something special. Incredibly refined on the palate for such a big wine, and due to Christophe's blending of different plots it really is an amalgamation of the playful, red-fruited camp of Bonnes Mares alongside the darker, earthier and more brooding side of the appellation on the nose.

This will get a lot better with time. If you have the patience, I'd stick it in the back of the cellar and forget about it for a decade before revisiting. When it does, there will be clear upside - I'm sure at least 1 or 2 points - and I cannot wait to see how this blossoms.

This wine once again prompted the discussion around the liberal use of sulfur in Roumier's wines: is it too heavy handed? Perhaps... but then it does insulate them for the long-haul and hopefully will give us examples of truly epic mature Burgundy in the longer run.

Such a pleasure to share with M and cap off a lovely day in Burgundy.

January 19, 2024 - The '15 BM was super tight and hard to rate at this stage. The wine impressed for its texture, with plenty of concentration yet very finessed tannins, but it just isn't giving much right now aromatically or on the palate. It's likely a bad time to open a bottle, as the youthful exuberance I assume it showed on release (this was my first time tasting it) has faded, while the wine has yet to develop secondary flavors.

On the nose, I found muted dark red berry fruit, dark red floral tones, sweet spices, and orange peel. At times when the aromatics emerged, there was a beautiful sweetness to the fruit, almost candied in tone, but generally the aromatics here were subdued. On the palate, the wine had so much depth and concentration, but was super texturally finessed, showing medium plus in body with minmal perception of tannin. Like the aromatics, it's pretty closed off, with just a bit of sweet dark red berry fruit and dark red florals peeking out.

The '15 BM is way too young to recommend opening a bottle of at this point. I imagine it will end up being very good given the combination of density and finesse, but it's hard to peg the precise quality level at this point.

January 19, 2024 - Tasted the 2015 and 2013 together. Both had about 3 hours of air. Apparently the '15 was more expressive at open, but by the time it came around in the meal it had shut back down. The '13 on the other hand was much more expressive; not fully open but much more accessible than the 2015. Seeing notes here that it came around after a longer decant, but sadly did not have the same experience. The '15 did feel denser than the '13; if I had this, I would cellar it for a good while

'15 (rating on the basis that it was closed; potential is far higher)
    Nose: 89
    Palate: 90

March 19, 2023 - Opened and decanted for 3+ hours and it needed every minute. At the open was stern and unforgiving. 3 hours later it just began to show whole cluster notes, bright red berries, immense structure and depth. Impeccable balance among all the parts. This was a baby and glad I tried one. This wine should rest for 10-15 more years easily and reward even further cellaring beyond that. Epic bottle.

November 19, 2022 - Massive wine, cooked fruit. Is this overripe? Question mark for this wine for now. If you own this, dont open this before 2035. 94-96
