August 12, 2017 - Going Away Dinner with Friends (Lake Effect, UT): Drank from Magnum. I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed with this bottle. I love German Riesling, and have more of it than anything else. I know this was too young, but Riesling is delicious young too! The nose on this was slightly muted but tasted of apples, pears, jasmine and just a hint of spice, possibly from botrytis. That being said, for an Auslese from a good producer and good vineyard it just wasn't that interesting. Did show a slight slate or mineral edge, but more in the background. The finish was surprisingly short also, the sweetness lingered, but the flavors did not. This was sweet and delicious, but often Rieslings can have so much more than that, and this one just didn't have anything more to it...
