December 15, 2012 - Great nose, lots of fruit. Big fruit on the palate, however...this wine is just flat in the mouth. No body at all, totally dead. Drinking like grape juice.

September 12, 2011 - Probably my 4th or 5th time trying this wine. It just lacks something for me. Not sure why? I know it was pricey on release. The oak has somewhat faded but there isn't anything left. Nothing bad per se, but not much here. Some generic dark fruit. Drank over two nights before spilling out the rest of the bottle. Not sure what is going on, but this was consistent with all the other bottles.

COLOR: Opaque purple with light purple rim
NOTE: So disappointing for an Asseo wine, from nose to finish. It's not flawed, but it sure isn't pleasurable to my palate. Nose is dominated by burnt pencil lead, and you can barely tell there's some fruit under there. Then the med-hvy mouth is still dominated by this charcoal/ash element, as is the finish. It's literally like taking some Chambord and filtering it through last nights BBQ ashes. Picks up some harsh burnt meat drippings. Blecch. This is the worst Syrah I've had in a long time, and the price is just absolutely insulting. This wine isn't challenging, just disappointing and undrinkable for me. At least it's the outlier. In 5 years I've never had another Asseo wine that disappointed.
DECANT: 1 hr
GLASS USED: Syrah
TASTE: 8.1 (and I'm probably being generous)
COST: 80
VALUE: 0.1
PREVIOUSLY TASTED: n/a
TRY AGAIN: hopefully never, unless the US decides to move on to something stronger than waterboarding and I happen to be the unfortunate terrorist
PAIRING: the burnt drippings from underneath your barbeque (ACK!!!)

December 12, 2009 - Spash decanted. Very inky purple color, and extremely fragrant. My girlfriend could smell it wafting from the decanter 10 feet away. Very spicy and peppery, with blackberry and licorice. An outstanding wine that I wish I had more of!
