March 30, 2024 - This hit its sweet spot after about 90 minutes of air in the bottle. Dark fruit leaning a smidge to the savory side of the spectrum on the palate with a little bacon coming in on the back end. Medium long finish. Very expressive of the site. Will have to try a Frenchies tomorrow

February 14, 2021 - Decanted 3 hours. Wine is finally mellowing and developing moresecondary flavors. Fruit and tannins are still there but not so much in your face. Much smoother and easy to drink. My last bottle so won’t be able to see how it improves from here. Nice Syrah devoid of syrupy sweetness which is great. At a good place right now. Enjoy.

October 10, 2020 - I believe this is one of Big Basins flagship wines, and I am a Big Basin fan but I found this to be a bit of a head scratchier. It pours deep ruby in the glass with notable viscosity. Off the bat the nose is very ripe showing prunes, figs, cassis, road tar, VA and quite a lot of it's 14.4% alcohol. The palate is very structured with medium plus tannin, and quite a lot of it's alcohol again showing on the palate. All in all I'm quite surprised as I associate Big Basin with a lot more finesse than this rather clumsy wine is showing. It features quite a wall of dark fruit, way too much alcohol and a wall of tannin. Just not my thing.

November 25, 2019 - Not ready for prime time which I knew before I opened it. Tight and closed after an hour decant. Give it 2-3 hours if you are opening it now. Nice structure, balance and lots of layering of flavors. Will be better in another year or two.

August 18, 2019 - Very well made, gripping tannins, good acidity, blue fruit, long finish. Complex, enjoyable, but not terribly distinctive. Really like it but would not buy more at this price point.
