Community Tasting Notes 2

February 18, 2019 - Dinner at Jade Court (Chicago, IL): No one else at the table agreed with me, but I swear I picked up some unpleasant musty notes here. "It's just the taste of old champagne." I'm not really in agreement there, I think there's something not quite right because of that mustiness. Seems a little overly bready too. Rereading my old note now makes me more convinced that this wasn't a totally sound bottle too.

January 15, 2018 - Dönnhoff Eiswein (2009-11) et al. (Chicago, IL): A really lovely bottle of champagne, that shows a nice balance between primary and secondary. On one hand, there's still so much youthful freshness and acidity here (probably thanks to the vintage), and on the other, there are developed secondary flavours -- a bit of nuttiness and baked apple, among other things. Chalky minerality on the finish, with a serious vein of acidity.
