  De color rubí rojizo de capa media-alta, oscuro, tapado. Levemente granulado, con un poco de precipitado en la base de la botella. Reflejos rojizos y ambarinos, sin mucho brillo. Sensación intensa de gsor. Borde anaranjado, amplio.
  
  Con muchas cosas en común con el Monte Real de 1978. Destaca por su fuerte intensidad inicial y ese carácter animal a cuadra, almizclado, crin, fondo húmedo, maromas, fibras vegetales (mimbre), arreos viejos, cuero. Poderoso y austero al mismo tiempo. Combina la potencia olfactiva con un carácter cicatero, remiso a la espectacularidad y que para muchos de nosotros tiene casi todo que ver con el carácter que Riojanas imprimía a sus vinos, apegados a esas tempranillos de Cenicero: puro terruño!! Un Monte Real de manual, reconocible en cada detalle hasta la exageración, rácano en elegancia pero purísimo en su esencia. Como en la mayoría de ocasiones precisa tiempo para que se abra. Va sacando un "tufillo" a peladuras de naranja, a fruta sobremadura, reducida, y ese fondo tostado, apenas envinado, con más cuero si cabe, y un deje de laurel y raspón.
  
  En boca asoma sobrado de vigor, macizo, firme, beneficiándose de una entrada impetusosa que se transforma en resplandor. Amplio, vibrante, vivo, con una acidez escandalosa y una cantidad fantástica de fruta confitada, sahumada por maderas viejas y un rastro imperceptible de vainilla ahí en el fondo. Sápido, generoso, con finos amargosos y un final prolongado. Tremendo!!

  75% tempranillo, 15% mazuelo, 5% garnacha, 2% graciano, 3% otras (viura, malvasía riojana)
  Alcohol: 12.5% vol
  - Fermentación inicial y crianza durante 12 meses en viejos tinos de madera de 20.000 litros en los que realiza la fermentación maloláctica y se estabiliza antes de ser trasegado. Posteriormente descansa entre 36 y 48 meses en barricas usadas de roble americano de 225 litros. Sometido a trasiegos manuales de forma periódica, entre 2 y 3 anuales. Ensamblaje de los vinos en depósito y posterior estabilización entre 6 y 12 meses hasta el momento de ser embotellado. Un mínimo de 36 meses de guarda en botellero en los calados de la bodega antes de ser comercializado.

  July 20, 2014 - What a beautifully aromatic bottle of wine. It started out with dried flowers, leather, dust and cherries and over the evening picked up a very pretty spice element as well. Only medium bodied on the palate, so very easy to drink.

  July 19, 2014 - Medium-aged Rieslings, etc @ Salil's (Vernon, CT): Perhaps the most aromatic nose of the night, with dried, pressed flowers, old leather and moist soil. A streak of mature cherry fruit runs through the wine and slowly dissolved in the mouth. Liquid satin. Not sure how much longer this can go, as this seemed to be drinking at its peak.

  July 19, 2014 - Rieslingfan's note nails it. A wow from the scent alone, incredibly fragrant and complex with mature fruit, earth, dust, leather, and dried flowers and spices coming together. The palate doesn't offer quite the same depth or intensity as the nose suggests, but it's still very graceful, medium weight and drinking very well right now.

  March 14, 2013 - This was a beauty. The fragrance right out of the gate was something else -- I don't know the last time I had a Rioja so alluringly aromatic. I started out preferring it to the Bosconia for that reason, but I kept going back and forth. This one was the more ethereal of the two, the Bosconia the more grippy, both so refined and in a great place.
