March 2, 2024 - Not sure this was a correct bottle. It was very oaky and blocky upon opening, and then kind of faded and felt tired after a short time in the decanter. Cork failure? Cooked? Not sure ....

August 18, 2023 - My last bottle of this vintage/cuvee. Brought this to a Syrah vs. Cabernet dinner for my wine group at a NYC Steakhouse. All the wines were opened, but not decanted for at least 45 minutes before pouring. An outstanding wine, and it was probably slightly preferred to the 2013 O'Shaughnessy (which was the other Cabernet of the night). Also more enjoyable than the 2 Syrah/Shiraz we had. Long finish, medium+ bodied. A great blend of spice, fruit and structure.

April 28, 2023 - 2012-2014 Napa Cabs (and blends) Night (Bobby Van's on Park, NYC): Part of a 2012-2014 Napa Cabernet and Blend night with my wine group. Opened but not decanted for over 90 minutes before pouring. For me it was a toss up between this and the 2013 Shafer One Point Five. The Lewelling seems more elegant than the Shafer. Long finish. For the group it was the 3rd favorite, for me it was 2nd. Just behind the O'Shaughnessy.

March 29, 2023 - I was afraid it would be a fruit-bomb because their regular bottling is very rich and ripe, but while it had amazingly concentrated fruits it was simply more of a good thing rather than too much of anything. Big, intense, and deep flavors of dark cherry, blackberry, with notes of graphite, oak, earth and cedar. Full-bodied and concentrated, but not heavy. Terrific balance with coarse tannins and a long, long finish. This is a deep, dark wine but also with almost bright acidity. Very complex flavors, velvety texture, great balance and a super-long finish. I didn't decant it, but wish I had - it has continued to improve since we openied it about 2 hours ago. Would have thought it was French (Bordeaux blend from a warm vintage) if I didn't know better. Too elegant to be Californian, but too much ripe fruit for Bordeaux. This is easily a 94+ for me and probably a 95+ if I was basing it on just what I tasted - so I just convinced myself to raise it to 95. I think it might actually be higher, but I can count on one hand the number of wines I have given a score over 95. Can't believe I only paid $60 for it - directly from the winery.

    April 24, 2022 - WIML94

    Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lavender, cassis, plums and mixed dark fruit. Flavors of currants, plums, black cherries and black raspberries. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.
