Community Tasting Notes 15

March 15, 2019 - Great bottle. Honeyed yellow color concerned me, as the similarly colored 1991 from the same auction lot was DOA a few weeks ago. But this was very much alive. There is still some pear fruit left on the nose, but the honeyed and toffee notes are more prominent, but these are fresh and pungent aromas, not dull and oxidative. The wines shines on the palate, with vivid purity and freshness to the complex old Chardonnay flavors. I've had so little old wine from this place, we all remarked that it could never be mistaken for Burgundy, and that's not because it's riper or fleshier because of the fruit in any way. It's because the mineral stamp is so different. I want to say less prominent here, but maybe that's a case of my unfamiliarity with the details of the smell and taste of Stony Hill terroir after 20+ years. In any case, this was a very rewarding bottle.

September 5, 2018 - Chardonnay Shootout: Burgundy vs New World, Double Blind (Booth One - Chicago IL): Double blind in Chardonnay New World vs Old World shootout. Apple and lemon aromas and flavors that was surprisingly fresh for its age. Good weight and length that still retains bright acidity, but without a sense of mineral on textures. Correctly identified as New World.

November 24, 2016 - Dark amber to golden. Butterscotch, ginger, lemon curd, hazelnuts, candied lemon peel, golden raisin, pretty acid on the finish. A touch of oxidation, but still holding up with plenty of life left.

April 26, 2013 - beautiful dry pear and butterscotch nose. On the palate crisp lively full and minerally. In great shape right now and should go another 20. Bottle was a low fill as well

April 9, 2012 - A lovely golden color, still holding together, expecting over ripe tropical, none of that in the mouth, a touch on the Jose. No flabbiness, or bacon far, nice white fruits, justblacking some structure and depth. A touch thin, drink up
