Community Tasting Notes 1

July 29, 2021 - Very interesting bottle of wine. I decanted briefly, and then wife and I had at it. To start with, we found a delicate balance of Malbec and kerosene. Make no mistake: this is a full bodied, fully structured wine. The marketing material says "The wine conquers the palate," and it certainly does. I personally like my palate to retain its freedom, but that's me.

BUT HERE'S THE THING: you gotta let it have about an hour in the decanter before you even sniff it (as I said, I sniffed too soon and my nose-hairs are still singed). After an hour, the kerosene was gone, and you're left with black cherry and mineral flavors. Even though the wine had mellowed, its intensity was overwhelming to the palate (btw, I'm a big fan of big Cabernet Sauvignon, and get bored sipping those Sauvignon Blanc sorts of wines).

And so we brought out bleu cheese and crackers to have with it. OMG, NOW WE'RE TALKING. This wine is not to be consumed on its own. Challenge it with strong flavors and you'll find it is in a brand new groove, providing balance to strong flavors that would ordinarily overwhelm.

This will never be an "every day" wine in our house, but for just the right menu - it will be just the right serve. Was it worth $70? Maybe for you. Not for me.
