May 26, 2021 - A gorgeous bottle of Syrah, deftly intermixing the blue/black fruit with earth and herbal notes into a seamless melange. While it's developed some secondary character, it still retains the charm of its primary fruit. Drink and hold, as they say :)

August 15, 2020 - Pristine cork and happily an equally pristine wine. It’s only been open for 30 minutes or so, and the the perfume is beguiling. Dark red fruit is still present at the core, and it’s wrapped in dusty worn leather, crushed herbs, roasting meat and just a hint of gamy/animal fur. Largely resolved, there’s still enough tannic structure to hold it together, and the acidity firms up on the finish, where the roasted meat and leather take center stage. Overall this is exactly where I hoped it would be, and while I want to open my remaining bottles ASAP to re-capture this moment, I don’t feel compelled to do so.
Classic ESJ Syrah. -

November 17, 2018 - Mauve color. Cool climate Syrah dominated by olives on the nose, along with fresh plum and mineral. Palate has olives, brine, savory and red and blue fruits. Excellent.

November 15, 2014 - Mildly corked, but there's a beautiful wine underneath the cork taint. FML

October 4, 2013 - For me Steve Edmunds defines CA Syrah. You have to wait 3-4 yrs after release but will be well rewarded, very much a European style Syrah. Of 5 reds served with wino friends and a meal of salmon, this was the #1 wine. Expect this wine to drink well for several more years.
