August 21, 2019 - A couple years years ago this was all on the fruit side of the grape, now it's STGT Chablis like a mouthful of crushed oyster shells against a watercolor backdrop of pale, pure fruit. Doesn't taste *older* but all of its character is out there in full-peacock fashion and if this is how you like your Chablis (I sure do) it's surely in a, if not the, peak condition.

April 3, 2017 - A real treat to try pre-phylloxera Chablis. Nothing petit about the intensity here. Lip smacking saline minerality. Made me think of pepiere briords, but better. Tight and driven, with high acidity.

February 7, 2017 - Yes, Virginia, there really is pre-phylloxera Chablis. Pretty nice to catch one in the Chablis vintage of the century, too. This is the second bottle of this I've had. The first bottle was all on the mineral side. This one is actually showing more creamy fruit, but in a super-pure style. It seems almost absurd to talk about the "essence of chardonnay" because the essence of so much bad chardonnay is all in the manufacture, not the grape, and the essence of so much good chardonnay isn't in the grape, either - it's in the dirt of Chablis or Chassagne or whatever. But at this moment the fruit in this bottle is showing such a lusciousness that it is showing chardonnay in its pure delicious fruit state almost in the fashion of a fruity riesling. It still features the marine element that makes Chablis Chablis, but it is in the background and the flesh of the fruit is more immediate, with an almost gelatinous texture. It's so bright in complexion it practically has a neon glow (again in a rieslingesque fashion) and it's just as vibrant when it warms up to room temperature.
