November 4, 2022 - Open, somewhat ripe, forward but with nice balance. Nice soft oak. Opulent Chardonnay fruit. Very nice wine at 9 years! Majority thought it was Burgundy… as would I if I didn’t know better.

January 20, 2021 - Bottle seemed off to me and didn't change over two days. Pretty advanced and tired, but not totally dead. Storage conditions? Bottle variation? The last one, two years ago, was full of energy. I had been looking forward to this one.

September 18, 2019 - This bottle seemed off to me; atypical from the normal Eyrie style in that it was very tropical with mango, pineapple, coconut, and some buttery notes/lactic notes. The palate was ok, but seemed a bit flat. There were also some subtle nutty notes which made me wonder if this had been oxidized as generally this was not what I would encounter from this bottling.

September 5, 2018 - Chardonnay Shootout: Burgundy vs New World, Double Blind (Booth One - Chicago IL): Double blind in Chardonnay New World vs Old World shootout. Moderately ripe orchard fruit with lots of energy and good textures. Very good length. Incorrectly thought this was from Burgundy.

August 7, 2018 - I drank this a few nights ago and tragically didn’t end up drinking it in a context that allowed me to savor this or focus much on it. It was tragic because from the first sips it was apparent that this is a beautiful wine in a fantastic place right now.

This has a slightly leesy character that hints at richness but finishes astoundingly clean and focused. One of the longest and most pleasing finishes I have ever enjoyed.

Given this wine’s structure (and pedigree) I’m sure it will continue to evolve beautifully for many years. But it’s absolutely singing right now. Drink or hold, it’ll be great either way.
