Community Tasting Notes 4

July 8, 2016 - Dull and one-note. Dry with dark berries, some spice. Low tannins. Drinkable, but I think I'd could find something twice as interesting for the same price. I would only get this again if I need to entertain a large number of people. "Value" wine.

January 23, 2016 - Compared Cabs from high volume 'box wine' producers using small 500ml Tetra Pak cartons. Below are notes and comparisons (in parenthesis) between these three.

Bandit NV (87-1st) - translucent garnet color (2nd), light earthy nose (1st), med mouthfeel (1st), med length finish (2nd), slight tannins/oak, sweeter than others but no-fuss quaffer, I wish they offered 3L with tap like others to maintain freshness, scored Gold at Critics Challenge and BoC at SF Chronicle.

Black Box 2014 (75-3rd) - translucent garnet color (1st), strong but stale/musty nose (3rd), med- mouthfeel (3rd), med- length finish (3rd), strange aftertaste, not for me.

Bota Box 2014 (84-2nd) - translucent garnet color (3rd), light nose (2nd), med mouthfeel (2nd), med+ length finish (1st), slight tannins/oak but too tart for me, also scored Gold at SF Chronicle.

January 15, 2016 - Not bad for boxed wine

January 4, 2016 - simple sweetish, jammy nose of dark cherries; bit harsh with some crude cloying notes. soft, flabby, gross heavy-handed overly sweet fruit somewhat masks harsh, crude tannins. unpleasant remains on palate and virtual absence of finish save for a sweet echo, thankfully. nose improves a bit with aeration, but metallic edge comes out. little apparent cabernet sauvignon character, too sweet to pass for a table wine, and only marginally drinkable.
