January 30, 2023 - Not the usual smoke blast from Islay
I like virtually every whisky from Islay, which means I virtually always like a peaty, smoky whisky. This is not that, but it's made so skillfully it's an excellent addition to the island's output, even if by profile it's an outlier. This is a much sweeter dram, though I would not go so far as to call it sweet overall, nor dessert-y. It starts with graham crackers and spicy floral notes on the nose, with graham crackers carrying through the palate alongside fruity notes and bits of spice. This is complex and interesting enough for most drinkers but must be the most approachable dram from Islay that I've had. You certainly can't miss the bottle, and I have a feeling there will usually be one of those turquoise hydrants on my bar for years to come.

March 20, 2022 - 2019 bottling (19/218). Clearly related to - though different from - the 2021 sample (21/153) that prompted purchase of this bottle. Maltier, more grapy fruit, the alcohol is a little more noticeable and the vanilla and sweetness a little less. Vegetal, pencil graphite notes linger on the finish. Checking later saw that some of the casks used in this recipe were ex-vin doux naturel, bordeaux blends and Bandol - makes you wonder :-D A good dram.

December 26, 2021 - Unpeated Islay with intentional batch variation. 2021 bottling. Clean, elegant; sweet malt, golden raisins, cinder toffee, vanilla. Balanced finish. 50%, but still better neat. Approachable and light-bodied.

October 27, 2021 - Light and fruity. Relatively complex, but includes a young/spirity sharpness that is unappealing. This subsided somewhat after the bottle was open several months.

June 15, 2020 - Scotch unique très intéressant. Aucune influence précise d'un cask, sur le fruit, le miel et la minéralité. C'est le Chablis ou Chenin de la Loire du scotch, beaucoup de substance à un prix d'ami.
