Community Tasting Notes 5

May 8, 2011 - Rather difficult to understand. I tried three Riedel glasses (the riesling, small chardonnay and pinot noir glasses) and found out that the large burgundy glass was best. Initially the wine had a rather disagreeable rotten nose which improved after an hour and was better yet on the second day: at best stones, lemon, anise. Medium bodied and rather nice taste with good balance. Interesting if not exactly charming and no match for a dry German riesling.

February 19, 2011 - Dark golden hue. Mature nose of truffles, wet leaves and overmature apples. Quite full bodied, easy to drink. Adequate acidity, but not as high as in more classic years, i.e. 1996, 2001 or 2002. Ready to drink.

December 18, 2010 - Light golden color; on the nose, a very intense "wet stone character" with a hint of lemon. In the mouth, the wine is very long and intense and completely dominated by the mineral character. It's very very dry, but not lean; at the very end, slight honey notes clue you in that this is not a great Chablis, but rather a Savennières. Great match for raw shellfish, sushi/sashimi, or grilled fish. Not sure how long this is going to last, but it felt quite youthful to me.

February 11, 2010 - Past it and disappointing

March 24, 2007 - This is improving after appearing rather dull in earlier years - good stone fruit character.
