Community Tasting Notes 2

October 17, 2020 - Acquired from a well-known Long Island based retailer in 2015, expecting to give this to my sister born in 1961 for a future birthday, but on checking on the bottle I suspected a problem and opened it with some friends tonight to see what was going on. It was horribly over the hill. This wine had more sediment than I have ever seen...it was polymerized into rubbery chunks and had stripped the wine of all color but a light nearly transparent copper rose hue. The nose was slightly interesting with a muted leathery, earthy and slightly port-like demeanor but the palate was tasteless. Neither heavily oxidized in aroma nor showing heavy VA. Disappointing but that’s the risk with bottles this old, especially those my personally cellared.

June 5, 2016 - Sour plum soup color, nose and palate, lively acidity wrapped around tight dried fruit notes, long finish. Not much angular tannin remaining but a delicious tertiary wine.
