Community Tasting Notes 3

December 14, 2007 - 2004 just wasn't a nice year to california Zins. The wine wasn't bad, just not very memorable. Right upon opening the bottle there was an aroma of stewed fruit. However, there was not much fruit to speak of on the palate. After an hour open, the wine turned into liquid wood. Both the nose and palate was like sucking on a piece of cedar. Mouthfeel had medium weight, but died fairly quickly on the back of the tongue. Not terribly sad to see the last of these bottles go. Would not purchase again.

June 21, 2007 - The nose on this wine has really popped since the last bottle I had. Spot on aromas of clove dominates. The taste leaves lots to be desired. A bit metallic and thin. Improved a little over time, but not markedly. Decent wine to drink on a weeknight, but not a good QPR. Would not purchase again.

October 29, 2006 - Wanted to try one of my bottles to get a base line for this wine. Purchased without tasting. Think that 2004 may have been a down year for Zin. The wine is a bit primary right now. Bright red coloring. scents of tobacco and clove. For the alcohol level I was expecting the wine to be a bit more extracted on the fruit side. Have had better Zin's in the price range and will probably go back to the Seghesio when the 2005 vintage comes out. This was a good wine, just not a good QPR. Will try another bottle in six months to a year to see if it gets better. Would not purchase again at this point.
